It Happened

Friday, June 24 the world came crashing down. It’s been falling for a very very long time, several years in fact. Honestly, America’s been going downhill longer than that. But now we're here. The bottom of the hill. As July 4th approaches I can't see it being anything other than a day off work.

What once was a day of celebration, is now a symbol of hate across the board. Hate directed at Black people, Brown people, LGBTQ+ folk, and WOMEN.

It’s been this way as long as I can remember. And now they've ruled in favor of aborting (oh the irony of using that word here) the decision of Roe v. Wade. In 26 states women no longer can get an abortion (safely and legally). In some of those states women can’t even get medication they need to survive because certain medications could be used “for an abortion".

Yesterday I saw a post by Skylar Jay that read, “My mom just keeps saying, ‘Rapists get to choose the mother of their children now.’” And if that doesn’t give you chills then my book and this blog are not for you.

On the 24th, there were dozens of protests around the City and I went to the biggest one. 20k+ people showed up. While we are a state where abortion is legal and safe we still stand for women across the country.

My heart aches; it breaks and I can’t control the fear I have for women out there who will die getting unsafe abortions because they have no other option, for those women who are raped and must carry a child that comes from hate, and for those who can’t get the medication they need to survive their normal every day lives.

If this hits home please, call your representatives, stand up, go out and be loud, do anything you can. Below are some helpful links, signs from the protest, and a link to my tik tok video from the protest. Be safe, be wise, but be motherfucking loud.
