Introduction

Have you ever told a story to some friends, and when you’ve finished they enthusiastically tell you, “you should write a book!”?

The first time someone tells you that, you probably laughed it off. I did. I mean, who am I to write a book? But then I’d tell story after story and hear the same question over and over again, so I got to thinking, what if I wrote a book? And then I thought even more. What if I created a comedic set based on the stories I’ll write in my book?

If you’ve ever thought of writing a book, you’re probably familiar with all the thoughts that come rushing in when you put it to your mind to write your story.

Thought 1: This is going to be fucking amazing!

Thought 2: How many words are in a book??

Thought 3: I wonder if Oprah will want it autographed?

Thought 4: Am I as funny as I think I am?

And so on, and so on, and so on.

I had to really wonder if I had something people wanted. Would strangers want to hear the stories I tell my friends to make them laugh? Would people find value in my mistakes - maybe they’d see themselves and feel less alone; or maybe they’d feel better that while they may be a mess, they’re not a hot mess.

I’m not going to be giving my book away for free via this blog. I’ll tease some stories but if you want all the dirt, you’ll have to subscribe and wait for my book to come out. Books take time but I’m the closest I’ve ever been to getting it done. I’m also going to be using this as a platform to talk about things that are important, and things that I feel passionate about. I hope you come along for the ride, because my life has been a non-stop ride of I don’t even know what, and it’s not slowing down. And I don’t want it to! I’m going to live my life unapologetically as Hott Mess Jess.
